Funding

For Students training for ministry in the Church of England

Course fees for C of E students training for licensed and authorised ministries are covered by the Church of England – nationally in the case of ordinands, and through arrangement with your diocese in the case of readers, LLMs and other such courses. You will only be training for these ministries with us at LCT by arrangement with your diocese, so please direct financial queries in the first place to your diocese.
However we list below some sources of funding that may be relevant in cases of particular financial difficulty or other need, and you are welcome to explore such possibilities. We recommend you tell your diocese about such applications so that good communication is maintained at all times.

LCT Bursary Fund

The LCT Bursary Fund has been set up to provide financial assistance to independent students in meeting the fees of their programme of study at LCT.  View the Bursary Fund Information Sheet.

Possible Sources of Funding

 

LWPT Vocational Grants

Available to those who need financial assistance in order to enable them to pursue their vocation in ministry, including to those in the early stages of exploring their calling to preach. Grants can be used towards course fees and materials for any recognised course that enables the applicant to explore or develop their preaching skills.

 

Newcastle upon Tyne Church of England Institute Trust

The Trust awards grants for the education, training and refreshment of members of the Church of England in Newcastle Diocese.

 

Bernard Mizeki Grants

These grants are available for lay ministries and the training and development of lay ministry.

 

Ordination Candidates Training Fund (OCTF)

The Fund’s primary concern is to help those exploring their potential vocation to ordination who do not qualify for grant support while on an initial theological course. In accordance with their trust deed, grants are awarded to candidates “holding distinctly … evangelical views”.

The Fund also gives one-off grants to ordinands who find themselves in financial difficulties for reasons outside their control.

 

Women’s Continuing Ministerial Education Trust

The Women’s Continuing Ministerial Education Trust (WCMET) exists to support the ministerial development of women in the Church of England and the Scottish Episcopal Church. It administers the provision of grants to female clergy, female accredited lay workers, and religious sisters in England and Scotland in need of financial support for their continuing training.

 

Student Loans

LCT students are not eligible to apply for a student loan to support their studies.
