Exploring Postgraduate Study
Do you want to build on the foundations of your previous study, and dig deeper?
Lindisfarne’s postgraduate offerings are designed to take students with existing theological backgrounds further into their areas of interest and ministry. Our taught modules address ongoing and emerging issues relevant to active ministry, and our options for independent research are flexible and personalised. Lindisfarne’s postgraduate programmes are part of the Common Awards scheme and are validated by Durham University. Students may pursue postgraduate qualification from the Postgraduate Certificate to the full MA. While many of our students are sponsored by churches and training for ministry, independent students are equally welcome. The usual standard for admission is a 2.1 (or equivalent mark) for a previous degree in a relevant subject. We also expect that you are in good standing with your local church and that you can fulfil the expectations of the Disclosure Barring Service.
Students enrolled in Lindisfarne’s postgraduate programmes have access to a variety of possibilities for independent study. We are proud to partner with a wide range of practitioners and established academics across the northeast, and this network allows us to pair our students with experienced supervisors as they conduct independent research over a huge breadth of subjects.
Face-to-face teaching takes place on Thursday evenings at Church House in North Shields. Postgraduate modules tend to rotate on a 2-year cycle (3 modules per year) and currently include the following titles (precise wording is subject to change):
- Research and Reflection
- Christian Faith and the Environment
- Isaiah and the Transformation of Society
- The Northen Saints: A History of Mission in Northeast England
- God, Beauty and the Imagination
- Human Identity and the Imago Dei
Postgraduate students are also able to take select undergraduate modules as part of their postgraduate programmes.
If you are interested in studying with us as an independent student, or would like more information, we would love to hear from you. You can get in touch via the website contact form or contact the Director of Postgraduate Studies, Caleb Gordon directly: caleb.gordon@lindisfarnect.org.

Ministerial Development Pathway
This pathway is designed to increase accessibility to postgraduate study for those already serving in lay or ordained ministry. Students joining Lindisfarne via this pathway are able to spread the cost and credit requirements of their first year over two years. Read more about the Ministerial Development Pathway.
Auditing Postgraduate Modules
It is possible to complete our 10-week postgraduate modules for interest. This involves a limited amount of reading between classes but no essays or other assessments.
